California's Great America is a must see attraction for any amusement park enthusiast taking a trip to The Golden State.
The park features more than a dozen roller coasters and numerous thrill rides that will amuse even the most jaded roller coaster buff. The park offers more than 50 rides total and includes admission to the adjacent water park.
Perhaps the park's most famous attraction is Flight Deck, a coaster that features trains that are suspended from an overhead track. The ride features a nine-story drop into a vertical loop and a corkscrew inversion, which carries riders over a body of water below the coaster.
Those looking for more old school thrills can brave The Grizzly, one of the best wooden roller coasters in the country.
Riders tired of the non-stop action can take a break and enjoy one of the many live entertainment shows the park features every year. There are shows available for kids of all ages.
The kids (and their parents) will also be happy to know that the park's "Kidzville" offers smaller sized thrills for those not big enough for the adult rides. Bumper cars, swing rides, and an activity area top the attractions available.
While the kids are off having a blast, Mom and Dad can enjoy a romantic ride on the park's Carousel Columbia, the world's tallest double decker carousel. Other less intensive attractions include Delta Flyer and Action Theater.
Those famished after going from ride to ride all day can refuel at more than a dozen restaurants or food stands located throughout the park. Normal park fare like pizza, burgers, and funnel cake is available but the park also features more upscale fare such as seafood and Asian cuisine.
Those who tire of what the main park has to offer can take the party to Boomerang Bay, the nearby water park that is included with admission to Great America. The water park offers thrilling tube and body slides but also has a pool where travelers can kick back and relax. The main attraction for families is Boomerang Lagoon, which contains 150,000 gallons of heated water, set in a tropical environment.
California’s Great America amusement park opened in 1976 and has been a staple of the California tourist scene ever since, along with several other parks owned by Cedar Fair.
